HelloAsiaNews.com is delighted to report the relaunch of the Edmonton Police Service’s (EPS) prestigious Cadet Corps program, ending its four-year hiatus.
Undergoing a comprehensive overhaul, the program now boasts an updated curriculum in collaboration with various EPS units, including the Recruit Training Unit and the Firearms Training Unit. This rejuvenated approach prioritizes immersive learning experiences, providing age-appropriate soft skills training and live demonstrations to offer insights into the vital role of law enforcement within our communities.
Cst. Amy Humphreys, Youth Program Coordinator, expressed her excitement for the program’s return, noting the enthusiastic anticipation from EPS members, former Cadets, families, and community stakeholders.
Designed for youths aged 14-18 with aspirations in policing careers, the program’s curriculum aims to cultivate physical and mental resilience, teamwork, character development, and leadership skills. Graduates of the program have historically progressed into various roles within EPS and other policing agencies nationwide, as well as becoming influential community leaders.
Established in 1959 as the Police Venturers under Scouts Canada, the program transitioned to direct police management in 1990, celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2009. Following a period of restructuring, the program is poised to resume its legacy.
Participation in the Cadet program offers students the opportunity to pursue the prestigious Duke of Edinburgh award and earn high school credits through practical work experience, further enriching their community engagement.
Applications for the 2024-2025 term are currently open until May 31, 2024. Interested students are encouraged to apply online at edmontonpolice.ca/cadets. The program is scheduled to commence in September, running through to the following May.
