The Sarnia Chess Club hosted an electrifying unrated chess tournament on June 1, 2025, at Franco-Phone School, bringing together budding and seasoned players in two competitive sections: Open and U-16. Organized with precision by Todd FontCharlton, Andy Bruziewicz, and Shardool Devavrat, the event featured eight intense rounds of strategic battles. In the Open section, Benjamin Dacosta and Samartha Seth emerged as co-champions, tying for first place with 6 points each, while Bhavik Vyas secured a solid third place with 5 points.

The U-16 category showcased impressive young talent, with David Tolotoei claiming first place with a perfect 7-point run. Mugil M followed in second place with 6 points, and Anders Cooper captured third place after a strong tie-break finish. The event was a celebration of focus, skill, and community spirit, reinforcing Sarnia’s growing reputation as a local hub for chess excellence.
