“Tamil Sangams, with a rich historical legacy, serve as essential tools for preserving Tamil culture and fostering unity among Tamils. The term ‘Sangam’ signifies gathering together. The renowned Tamil slogan, which has been in existence for over 3000 plus years, says: ‘Yaathum Uure Yaavarum Kaeleer’, meaning ‘To us, all towns are one, and all men are our kin.’ To spread brotherhood to the global community, Tamils residing in cities across the globe have actively formed associations to connect, promote their language, and celebrate their culture within their own community and with other communities.”
In Sarnia, Canada, the Sarnia Tamil Sangam was established, and it recently celebrated its inaugural event—the Tamil Pongal Festival (January 2024). During this festive occasion, the Sarnia Tamil Association unveiled a pristine white logo featuring the silhouette of Thiruvalluvar, symbolizing the city’s iconic Bluewater Bridge.
The first Sangam event was a resounding success, thanks to the unwavering commitment of its organizers and the enthusiastic participation of its members. The Association expresses heartfelt gratitude to its members and generous donors who contributed to making this event truly special. Organizations interested in participating in future events organized by this association are encouraged to reach out to its administrators.”
